Faster pages. Better scores. An easy setup.

That doesn’t tell you what you actually need to know, which is whether the thing will work with your hosting, your theme, your WooCommerce store, and the twelve plugins you’ve collected over the years.

So this article is built differently. It’s a list of the questions people ask us before they sign up, answered plainly. What does FastPixel actually do?

It replaces the pile of plugins most WordPress sites end up with.

You know the pile. A caching plugin. An image optimizer. Something for minification. A separate CDN account you set up once and haven’t looked at since. Maybe a Critical CSS tool you never quite got working.

FastPixel combines page caching, CSS and JavaScript optimization, Critical CSS, font optimization, image optimization, WebP delivery, lazy loading, object caching, and CDN delivery in one WordPress plugin.

The CDN is included in every plan, including the free one.

2. Is FastPixel just a caching plugin?

Caching is part of it, but it’s the least interesting part. WordPress has had good caching plugins for fifteen years.

The things that move modern performance metrics are Critical CSS, image resizing, format conversion, and font handling. Those are the parts most caching plugins either skip or do badly, because they’re expensive to run on your own server.

Which brings us to the actual difference.

3. How is it different from a traditional caching plugin?

It’s about where the work happens.

A traditional performance plugin does the optimization on your server. Every time a page has to be built, minified, and cached, your hosting account pays for it in CPU and RAM.

FastPixel sends the page to our servers, does the heavy work there, and sends the finished HTML back to your site to be stored and served. Your server generally ends up doing less work than it did before you installed anything and it allows us to apply much better optimizations than the other plugins.

That difference shows up most in the moments you’d want a performance plugin in the first place: shared hosting with a modest CPU allowance, a traffic spike, or a full cache purge across a large store on a Monday morning. Server-side optimization tends to be at its weakest exactly when your site is busiest, because the optimization is part of what’s making it busy.

4. Do I need to change my DNS?

No. Your domain keeps pointing exactly where it points today.

This is a real difference from some other cloud-based tools, and it’s worth understanding why. Your visitors’ traffic never routes through our infrastructure. The optimized HTML sits on your own server and gets served by your own site.

In practice that means no propagation wait, no risk of a bad DNS record taking a client site offline, and no awkward conversation with someone’s IT department about who controls the domain.

5. Who is FastPixel built for?

Site owners who want performance handled rather than tuned, and agencies running a lot of sites.

Blogs, business sites, and WooCommerce stores are all normal use cases. Small sites benefit. Larger sites often benefit more, simply because there’s more to fix.

6. Who should not use FastPixel?

Three groups, and we’d rather say so upfront than have you find out in month two.

Sites where nearly every page is different for every visitor. A membership dashboard, a web app, a site where almost all traffic is logged in and personalized. Cookie exclusions and Vary Cache make this workable, but if it describes your entire site rather than one section of it, there isn’t much for caching to do.

Sites with a broken foundation. If your server takes two seconds to respond, or you’re running sixty plugins and twelve of them load scripts on every page, a performance plugin will raise your score and disappoint you about how the site actually feels. Fix the foundation first. That’s what our support team will tell you too.

People who want to control every setting. FastPixel deliberately hides options that don’t meaningfully change the outcome. There are presets, good defaults, a deep exclusion system, and hooks for developers. But if you enjoy spending an afternoon tuning forty checkboxes against a waterfall chart, you’ll find us opinionated.

Part 2: Features and Performance

7. What does FastPixel optimize?

Four layers of the page, plus delivery:

HTML and caching: full page caching with automatic warm-up, so pages get optimized before a visitor asks for them rather than after.

CSS and JavaScript: minified, combined, compressed, and served from the CDN, with Critical CSS generated separately for every page.

Fonts and images: both handled at delivery time, covered in the next few questions.

Delivery: a global CDN on every plan, DNS prefetching, lazy loading, and speculation rules that quietly preload the page a visitor is most likely to click next.

JavaScript is the most adjustable part of the plugin, because it’s the part most likely to interact with something unusual in your theme. That’s why exclusions work down to individual files.

8. What is Critical CSS and why does it matter?

Think of it as the difference between reading the whole manual and reading the one page you need right now.

A typical WordPress page loads stylesheets the browser has to download and parse before it can show anything. Often that’s hundreds of kilobytes, and the visible top of the page needs a fraction of it. Critical CSS pulls out just what’s needed for that first screen, puts it directly in the page, and loads the rest afterward.

The catch is that it has to be generated per page, because your homepage and your product page have different first screens. Doing that properly is expensive to compute, which is why plugins that run on your server either do it slowly, generate it once from a template, or make you trigger it by hand.

FastPixel generates it for each page, in the cloud, automatically. On a page builder site it’s often the single biggest improvement available.

9. How does FastPixel optimize images without changing the originals?

Your media library is never touched. The optimization happens in delivery.

Images get resized to fit the space they actually occupy, compressed with ShortPixel, converted to WebP when the visitor’s browser supports it, and delivered from the CDN in different sizes for different screen resolutions. Browsers without WebP support get the original format. Background images are scaled and optimized too, which most plugins skip entirely.

Compression is selectable: lossy, glossy, or lossless. If your product is the image, use the higher fidelity setting and check a few files yourself. The bigger win usually isn’t compression at all, it’s resizing. A 3,000px image displayed in an 800px slot is one of the most common performance mistakes on the web, and fixing it costs no visible quality.

Because the originals stay where they are, deactivating the plugin puts your site back the way it was, with nothing to restore from a backup.

10. Does FastPixel optimize fonts?

Yes. Subsetting, load control, compression, and embedding, all handled asynchronously.

Fonts are an underrated problem. They delay first paint, and that flash where your text reflows once the real font loads is a layout shift, which Google measures as part of Core Web Vitals. If you’d rather do this work by hand, we have a full guide on WordPress font optimization.

11. Does it support Redis or Memcached object caching?

Yes. FastPixel connects directly to your Redis or Memcached server, with no extra plugin needed.

Object cache is your site’s short-term memory. It keeps frequently used database results in memory so WordPress doesn’t have to look them up again on every single page load. It makes the biggest difference on WooCommerce stores, membership sites, and anything query-heavy.

One requirement: your host has to actually offer Redis or Memcached. Many do, especially managed WordPress hosts. If yours doesn’t, this particular feature isn’t available to you. Ask their support team, it’s a quick question.

12. Does it improve real performance or just PageSpeed scores?

Both, and it’s designed for the first one.

Caching, Critical CSS, image resizing, and WebP delivery improve what a lab test measures and what a visitor feels, which is convenient. But FastPixel also uses browser features such as speculation rules to make subsequent page visits feel faster, even when they do not directly affect a PageSpeed score.

On a blog where someone reads three or four articles in a session, that’s one of the improvements they’re most likely to notice, and it contributes nothing to your number. If the score is the only thing you ever look at, you’ll miss part of what you’re paying for.

Part 3: Existing Plugins and Setup

13. Do I still need a separate caching or optimization plugin?

No, and this is the most important sentence in this section.

Before activating FastPixel, disable overlapping caching, minification, CSS optimization, JavaScript optimization, and image delivery features in other plugins. This includes tools such as WP Rocket, LiteSpeed Cache, W3 Total Cache, WP Super Cache, WP-Optimize, and Autoptimize.

Two plugins editing the same output produce a result neither of them intended. It’s one of the most common causes of strange behavior after installing any cache plugin, ours included. It also makes troubleshooting harder, because a broken slider is quick to diagnose when one plugin is responsible and slow when four of them might be.

Some of those plugins also do things you’ll want to keep, like database cleanup. Keep the plugin, just switch off the overlapping features. We have migration guides for most of them.

14. Can I use FastPixel with Cloudflare?

Yes, and plenty of sites do.

For speed alone you probably don’t need both. But Cloudflare does things we don’t do at all, like DDoS protection, WAF rules, DNS management, and bot filtering. If that’s why you’re using it, keep it.

FastPixel includes a Cloudflare integration that purges the Cloudflare cache automatically once a page has been optimized, so you don’t end up with the classic “I cleared one cache and forgot about the other one” ghost content.

15. Can I keep my existing CDN?

Usually yes, though for most sites there’s no reason to, since CDN delivery is included in every plan.

If you have a specific reason to keep yours, FastPixel can run alongside a different CDN. It’s worth asking support before you set both up, so the two don’t end up caching each other’s output.

16. Do I still need ShortPixel?

Usually not, but we generally recommend keeping both for best performance. FastPixel includes ShortPixel’s image optimization. Same optimization, same team.

Where people do keep both: when you want the actual files in your media library permanently optimized on disk, rather than optimized as they’re delivered. The two products solve overlapping but not identical problems.

Most of our users generally keep both plugins for the best performance possible.

17. How difficult is FastPixel to install?

Install from the WordPress repository, activate, walk through the onboarding, pick a preset. A few minutes, no DNS change, and no separate account to configure. The presets exist so you don’t have to know what Critical CSS is in order to benefit from it.

From there, your existing pages get optimized automatically, both as they’re visited and through automatic cache warm-up. While that’s happening, some pages show as “Queued.” They’re still being served normally, they just haven’t been optimized yet. Small sites may be processed quickly, while large stores with thousands of URLs will take longer to complete the initial optimization queue. Size is what determines this, not how fast your hosting is.

Two things worth knowing. The optimization pass itself uses one pageview per page, because our servers visit each page in order to optimize it, so on a large site that first run isn’t free in quota terms. And whatever you install, give yourself a couple minutes afterward to click through your own site: forms, sliders, mobile menu, cookie banner, cart, and any page with an embedded third-party widget. Then open two or three pages on an actual phone, not a resized desktop browser.

If something needs an exclusion, that’s usually a short job for someone who knows what they’re looking at, and our support team can handle it for you.

18. Can I test FastPixel before changing my live site?

Yes, and we’d genuinely prefer that you did.

The test.fastpixel.io test tool applies all the optimizations to a copy of your site and shows you the before and after, without touching your live installation. There’s also a sandbox if you want to click around inside the plugin first. It’s more honest than a trial you have to remember to cancel.

For a client site, use staging as well. Optimize staging, click through everything, write down the exclusions you need, then do the same on production with the answers already in hand.

Part 4: Compatibility

19. Does FastPixel work with WooCommerce?

Yes, and the store-specific behavior is handled rather than ignored.

Cart, checkout, and account pages stay out of the cache. Product page cache is purged automatically when stock or quantity changes. Scheduled price changes and sales trigger a purge when they start and when they end.

Product pages, category archives, and your homepage, which is where most of your traffic actually is, get cached and optimized normally.

20. Does it work with Elementor, Divi, and Bricks?

Yes, they are all compatible.

Page-builder websites often have more CSS and JavaScript to optimize, so they may see particularly noticeable improvements from per-page Critical CSS.

21. Does it work with membership and personalized websites?

Partly, and the honest answer depends on how much of your site is personalized.

FastPixel can exclude fully dynamic areas such as dashboards, carts, checkout pages, and account pages. It can also serve different cached versions of the same URL based on cookies when parts of the website vary between users, which is what makes caching possible on membership sites instead of switching it off entirely. Whether logged-in users see cached pages at all is a setting you control.

22. Can I exclude specific pages, scripts, bots, or URL patterns?

Yes, at every level you’re likely to need.

You can exclude individual pages or whole groups of them, by URL pattern with wildcards, by WooCommerce product, category or tag, or by custom post type, including directly from the Cache Status screen while you’re looking at the page. You can exclude individual JavaScript files, which is the usual fix when one element on a page stops behaving. You can exclude URL parameters, so tracking and affiliate links don’t generate hundreds of near-identical cached copies. You can exclude cookies, for anything that has to stay uncached or cached differently depending on the visitor.

And you can exclude bots by user agent. If you run uptime monitoring or SEO crawlers, this one is worth setting up on day one, since automated traffic can otherwise trigger optimization on pages no human is reading.

23. Does FastPixel support multilingual sites and WordPress Multisite?

Yes to both.

WPML and TranslatePress each have dedicated compatibility work, including redirect handling, which is where caching usually falls over on multilingual sites. Multisite installations are supported.

24. Will FastPixel affect forms, analytics, ads, or cookie banners?

Not in the normal case.

Tracking scripts, consent tools, and ad tags are the category we’re most careful with. Consent-related scripts are excluded from the more aggressive rewriting by default, because breaking a cookie banner is a legal problem rather than a performance one.

Forms, reCAPTCHA, and chat widgets work, and they’re also the usual suspects for a conflict. If one of them misbehaves, the issue can usually be resolved through an exclusion or a compatibility adjustment. Please do report it when it happens. Every conflict we hear about becomes a built-in compatibility rule that everyone else benefits from.

If you have an unusual consent or tagging setup, mention it to support before you go live rather than after.

25. Does FastPixel work with every WordPress installation and host?

FastPixel works with self-hosted WordPress websites on nearly all standard hosting providers. It does not support WordPress.com’s hosted platform or non-WordPress platforms such as Shopify, Webflow, and Drupal.

The WordPress.com limitation is technical rather than commercial: the platform restricts the advanced-cache.php file that the caching mechanism depends on. Self-hosted WordPress, which is what most people mean when they say WordPress, is fine.

If your host does something unusual, like running an aggressive proxy layer or a firewall that blocks our servers, there’s a list of IPs to whitelist and support will work through it with you.

Part 5: Results and Expectations

26. Will FastPixel give me a PageSpeed score of 100?

Most of the times, yes. Many sites reach 90+, but results vary, and you should be a little suspicious of anyone who promises a number.

Here’s why. The score is a lab test: a simulated mid-range phone on a throttled connection. It’s a useful diagnostic, and it’s what your client will screenshot and email you at 11pm, so it does matter. But Google ranks on field data, which is Core Web Vitals collected from real Chrome users, and those two numbers can disagree with each other.

Your results also depend on your hosting, your theme, your third-party scripts, and how your pages are built. A text-based article and a homepage with video, ads, and third-party widgets will not have the same performance ceiling. Test the pages that make you money, not just the homepage.

One thing we will say plainly. FastPixel does not serve a special version of the page only to performance-testing tools. Visitors and testing tools receive the same optimized page, and you can check that yourself: run the test, then load the same page in your browser and look at the HTML.

27. Which Core Web Vitals does FastPixel improve?

Core Web Vitals are three measurements of how a page feels to a real person:

LCP: how long it takes for the main content to appear.

CLS: how much the page moves while loading.

INP: how quickly the page responds to an interaction.

FastPixel helps most with LCP. Caching, Critical CSS, image resizing, and WebP delivery all point at that number.

CLS usually improves too, mostly through font handling and image dimensions, which are the two classic causes of pages jumping around.

INP is the honest one. It’s driven by JavaScript execution, and a lot of that JavaScript is your theme, your builder, and your third-party scripts. We reduce and defer whatever is safe to reduce and defer, but we can’t make a heavy script light. If your INP is bad, the fix is usually removing something, and we’ll tell you which something.

28. How quickly will I see results?

The optimization itself is fast. Search Console is not.

Google’s field data is a rolling 28-day window, so your Core Web Vitals report will show a mix of old and new experiences for weeks after your site is already fixed. Lab tools like PageSpeed Insights and GTmetrix will show the change as soon as the page is cached.

Worth setting that expectation with a client before you invoice, rather than on day three when they email asking why nothing has changed.

29. Why do PageSpeed Insights and GTmetrix show different results?

Different test locations, different simulated devices, different connection throttling, different scoring weights. PageSpeed Insights also mixes in real field data where it has some.

Two tools measuring different things will give you different numbers. The same tool run twice will vary a bit too.

Pick one, test the same pages at the same time of day, and watch the trend. Comparing a GTmetrix run today against a PageSpeed run from last Tuesday won’t tell you anything.

30. What should I check if my score does not improve?

Work through this list first:

Is another caching or optimization plugin still active?

Is the page showing as Cached, or is it still Queued or Stale?

Is your server slow to respond? (That’s a hosting problem, and it’s the next question.)

How many third-party scripts does the page load?

Is the thing hurting your score something we’ve been excluded from touching?

Then send the URL to support, along with what you expected, what you’re seeing, your browser and device, and whether it still happens after a purge. In many cases, the diagnostics point directly to the cause.

One related note, because it comes up. CPU usage normally decreases after pages are cached, although it may temporarily increase during the initial optimization process. If it stays high after that, there’s a short list of known causes and support can work out which one you’re hitting.

31. Can FastPixel fix slow hosting?

No, and this is the most important limitation in this article.

If your server takes two seconds to respond, we can make the page it eventually sends very efficient. We can’t make it arrive sooner. Cached pages reduce how often your server has to think, which helps a lot, but the response time on an uncached first hit belongs to your host.

If that’s your situation, the honest advice is to change hosting first and add optimization second.

Part 6: Pricing, Safety and Support

32. How are FastPixel pageviews counted?

Each visit to a cached page or post counts as one pageview from your quota. On top of that, each page uses one pageview during the optimization process itself, because our servers visit each page in order to optimize it.

Bots can use up pageviews too. Uptime monitors, SEO crawlers, and scanners hitting your site around the clock can quietly account for a real share of a smaller plan’s quota, which is why user-agent exclusions exist. That’s question 22.

You can see your current usage and plan in the FastPixel dashboard, and you’ll get a notice in your WordPress admin as you approach the limit.

33. What happens if I reach my pageview limit?

Your already-optimized pages keep being delivered. Your site doesn’t slow down and nothing breaks.

What stops is new optimization. No new pages or posts get optimized until your quota renews or you upgrade.

So the failure mode is “your newest content isn’t optimized yet,” not “your site is in trouble.”

34. How much does FastPixel cost and what is included?

FastPixel offers a free plan and paid plans based on pooled monthly pageviews. Features such as page optimization, image optimization, Critical CSS, Core Web Vitals work, CDN delivery, and support are included across plans, free included. There’s no badge in your footer on the free plan, and the top plan adds a Personal Migration Assistant who handles the move from your current setup.

Because pricing and allowances may change, check the current pricing page for exact limits.

The reason the allowance is pooled rather than per site: per-site licensing charges the same for a 200-visitor portfolio site as for a busy store, which is a bad deal for anyone who owns more than one website. Pooling means one busy site and nine quiet ones cost roughly what the busy one would have cost on its own.

Agencies, cancellation, and refunds. Agency accounts use a dedicated account type with a shared pageview pool across sites and every feature included, so if you manage client sites, talk to us about volume and migration instead of working from the pricing table. There’s no contract, you can cancel whenever you like, and there’s a money-back guarantee if you change your mind shortly after buying.

35. What happens if I deactivate FastPixel or the service is unavailable?

Nothing dramatic, which is rather the point.

Existing cached pages remain on your server. They’re static files and they don’t need us to be reachable. Pages that cannot be optimized are still served normally by WordPress: unoptimized, but served. Deactivating FastPixel returns the site to its original theme output, CSS, JavaScript, and media files. We don’t rewrite your database and we don’t replace anything in your media library.

Images are the one piece delivered from our CDN. Turn FastPixel off and your site serves its own originals again, untouched. If you stop paying, you drop back to the free tier and your existing optimized pages keep being served.

On our end, the infrastructure runs redundant load balancers with automatic failover, and there’s a public status page you can watch. In the typical failure scenario, your site continues serving existing cached pages, while unoptimized pages fall back to normal WordPress delivery.

36. Is FastPixel secure, GDPR compliant, and supported?

Company and product

FastPixel is built by the ShortPixel team. ShortPixel has been doing image optimization for over a decade with over 1.2 million active users across all plugins, and FastPixel is what happened when the same people looked at the rest of the performance problem. The plugin itself is open source and lives in the WordPress repository, so you can read the code. The optimization service is proprietary.

Privacy and security

A Data Processing Agreement is available if your compliance process needs one. What travels between your site and us is the URL to optimize, a postback URL, your settings, and a site key. We don’t need any customer data and we don’t want it.

The optimized HTML comes back through a signed postback to a dedicated endpoint on your installation, communication is encrypted, and requests are signed so neither side can be impersonated. Your visitors’ traffic never routes through us. If your security team only asks one question, that’s the sentence they care about.

Support

Support is included on every plan, free included, with a first response that’s usually measured in minutes rather than days. There’s also the documentation, a help center inside the plugin, an AI assistant in the dashboard, and a public status page.

If you’re comparing vendors, the reviews worth reading aren’t the ones about speed. Every performance plugin has those. Read the ones where someone hit a conflict with their theme, and see what happened next.

So, is FastPixel right for you?

FastPixel is likely a good fit if:

you want caching, image optimization, Critical CSS, and CDN delivery in one place;

you manage several WordPress sites;

you prefer automatic optimization over dozens of manual settings;

you want to reduce the number of overlapping performance plugins.

Check compatibility first if:

most of your website is personalized or available only to logged-in users;

you use complex custom caching or CDN rules;

you are hosted on WordPress.com;

your main problem is very slow hosting.

And if your question isn’t here, ask us.
